Setting Up Blogads In TypePad TypeLists
October 7, 2006 on 1:51 pm | In Weblogs |Earlier, I set up a new Blogads strip (with an ad for our legal jobs board (www.legalmojo.com)) over in the right hand margin of this blog. I’ve really enjoyed using Blogads…revenue from it has been used to fund my share of the development costs of various Rethink(IP) projects (like LegalMojo, LawsuitMojo, PatentFizz, etc.). Let me know if you want to chat (privately) about my experience with Blogads. Anyway…
As part of my community service (helping fellow bloggers and their future Google searches), I thought I’d explain how to set up a Blogads ad in as a TypePad TypeList. (To my non-blogging readers…please pardon the interruption):
1. Log-in to your TypePad Account.
2. Go to your TypeLists: http://www.typepad.com/t/app/lists
3. Select “Create a new TypeList.”
a. List Type: Link
b. List Name: Blogads (or whatever else you want to name it)
c. click “Create New List” button
4. Under “Manage” select “Add new item”
5. Skip all boxes and go to “Notes”
6. Enter the code Blogads gives you into “Notes”, i.e.:
<link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”http://cache.blogads.com/xxxxxxx/feed.css” /> <script language=”javascript” src=”http://cache.blogads.com/xxxxxxxx/feed.js”></script>
[note: use your own code…not the code with “xxxxxxxx” in it pasted here]
7. Click “save item.”
8. Click “close window.” That should bring you back to the main window for your new Blogads TypeList.
9. Now click on the “Configure” tab.
10. Under “2. Advanced Configuration” you need to change “Display Notes” to be “As Text” (that way the Blogads code shows up as code).
11. Click “Save Changes”
12. So…now you have a TypeList with your Blogads code in it. Last step is to get the TypeList to show up on your blog. If you don’t know how to do that, see TypePad’s article on “Displaying TypeLists on Your Weblog”
